There is a growing global awareness of the role various industries should play in environmental protection and social responsibility. The food sector is no exception. Food loss and waste are becoming a major concern for both food players and consumers, who are increasingly mindful of their environmental and social impact.

According to the Commission, nearly 59 million tonnes of food (131 kg/inhabitant) are wasted in the EU each year with an estimated market value of €132 billion. Over half of food waste (53%) is generated by households, followed by the processing and manufacturing sector (20%).

Bureau Veritas is excited to launch the Food Waste series where we will host an upcoming series of online events on tackling food waste across the supply chain. The series is kicking off with a first event dedicated to food waste reduction labels, and reliable methodology to set up and monitor reduction goals to also support industry stakeholders are getting ready to meet the future European Commission regulations from the Farm to Fork strategy for both future green claims directive issued last March 2023 and food waste reduction proposal issued last July 2023.

We are delighted to have special guests joining the event from France and Spain to bring different perspectives and methodologies to ensure food waste targets reduction trust.
