Supplier audits for Pharmaceutical and Cosmetics
As consumer facing businesses, pharmaceutical and cosmetics companies need to ensure their suppliers demonstrate responsible practices. Bureau Veritas performs supplier audits to a wide range of industry standards.
Environmental and ethical problems can easily arise in the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries. Toxic materials, air filtration, water usage and sensitive clinical trials are a few examples of issues affecting the supply chain.
Bureau Veritas has extensive experience auditing pharmaceutical and cosmetics suppliers worldwide. We offer three audit schemes for pharma and cosmetics, as well as a specific scheme for organic cosmetics suppliers due to high demand for natural products.

PSCI: Auditing pharmaceutical supply chain sustainability
PSCI is an industry organization that promotes responsible practices by setting and monitoring ethical, social, environmental and health and safety standards within its members’ owned facilities and supplier bases. It covers all types of production and facilities, from simple manufacturing and assembly sites to contract manufacturing organizations (CMO) and complex manufacturing of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). PSCI created the Pharmaceutical Industry Principles for Responsible Supply Chain Management to communicate expectations around five key areas of responsible business practice: ethics, labor, health & safety, environment, and management systems.
EFfCI: Good Manufacturing Practice
The European Federation for Cosmetic Ingredients (EFfCI) advocates the collective interests of more than 100 cosmetics and personal care ingredients manufacturers. EFfCI’s Good Manufacturing Practice guidelines ensure quality and safety in the production of cosmetic ingredients. The certification has achieved global recognition and is available in Europe, Asia and the Americas to companies supplying ingredients for products sold in Europe.
EXCiPACT: Certification for pharma excipient providers
EXCiPACT is a non-profit organization that owns and oversees an independent, third-party certification scheme available to pharmaceutical excipient manufacturers and distributors worldwide. EXCiPACT’s certification standards for pharmaceutical excipient suppliers include Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Distribution Practices. These standards enable high quality standards for pharmaceutical excipients, while reducing the audit burden for suppliers and customers.
COSMOS: A harmonized standard for organic cosmetics
The COSMOS-standard was developed as a single, international standard for organic and natural cosmetics. Covering all aspects of the sourcing, manufacturing, marketing and control of cosmetic products, it aims to promote the use of organic agriculture, respect for biodiversity, responsible resource use, respect for the environment, clean manufacturing and processing, and Green Chemistry.
