Biosafety Management System Standard

Sep. 22 2020

Faced with this new reality, businesses now require a framework to help them better manage the risk of infection in the workplace. Putting in place a management system that focuses specifically on biosafety is a step in the right direction.

This standard, prepared by Bureau Veritas, focuses on the need for companies and organizations to develop and implement engineering, administrative, and work/business practice controls including but not limited to the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to minimize contamination or infection risk at places of work and business.

Organizations which have not prepared for outbreaks of infectious diseases, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, should prepare themselves and their workers as far in advance as possible for potentially worsening outbreak conditions. Lack of continuity planning could result in a cascade of failures as employers attempt to address the challenges of any outbreak of infectious disease with insufficient resources and workers who might not be adequately trained for jobs they may have to perform during such an outbreak.

The management system approach provides an optimum way for businesses to manage the risk of infectious disease outbreaks. It helps businesses monitor the risk, keep their employees informed and Biosafety Certification ensures the company’s commitment to a safe working environment is made known to the outside  world.
