CORSIA

CORSIA VERIFICATION

Aviation accounts for over 2% of global CO2 emissions, and this figure is on the rise. Compliance with CORSIA enables international airlines to reduce their environmental impact and meet regulatory requirements.

With air travel on the rise globally, there is growing pressure on aircraft operators to reduce their carbon footprint. Consumers are increasingly vigilant about the consequences of their travel choices, and authorities are introducing regulatory measures to curb airline GHG emissions.

CORSIA (Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation) was launched in 2016 by ICAO (the International Civil Aviation Organization). It aims to help the industry achieve carbon-neutral growth through emissions reductions and offsets. Verification of aviation emissions under CORSIA is mandatory for international aircraft operators in ICAO’s 117 member states. Bureau Veritas’ CORSIA verification services enable airlines to achieve compliance and demonstrate environmental responsibility.

Key benefits

  • Meet regulatory requirements

by having your emissions monitoring plan and baseline data independently verified

  • Demonstrate environmental responsibility

by making every effort to cut and offset your emissions

  • Boost stakeholder confidence

through transparent emissions monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV)

  • Earn worldwide recognition

by partnering with one of the leading verification bodies for the aviation industry

CORSIA: clearing airlines for carbon-neutral growth

CORSIA is the ICAO’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation. It is the first such international scheme created for the airline industry, and compliance is mandatory for aircraft operators flying internationally from ICAO member states. Late reporting – or failure to report – can result in costly penalties from local regulators.

Meet regulatory requirements

International operators are required to have their 2019 and 2020 carbon emissions data verified by an accredited independent verification body like Bureau Veritas to establish a baseline. In subsequent years, in addition to yearly reporting requirements, airlines will have to increase fuel and operational efficiency and purchase carbon offset credits to ensure they have not exceeded baseline levels. Bureau Veritas partners with aviation players around the world to achieve CORSIA-compliant emission monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) and offsetting.

Protect your reputation

In the coming years, companies that demonstrate they are serious about reducing their carbon footprint will boost their reputation and gain an advantage in an increasingly competitive marketplace. CORSIA-compliant emissions reductions and reporting send a clear message to stakeholders about airlines’ commitment to sustainability.

A global network of CORSIA verifiers

Bureau Veritas is one of the most experienced verification bodies currently accredited to provide CORSIA verification. With a strong international network of greenhouse gas emission verifiers, our teams offer aircraft operators in-person service in local languages.
