FSSC 22000 audit could now be conducted fully remotely

Oct. 7 2020

The Foundation Food Safety System Certification 22000 (FSSC 22000) has developed an approach for conducting full remote audit when the premises of certified organization cannot be accessed as a result of a serious event. Full remote audit option is an accredited, non-GFSI recognized, voluntary option conducted using suitable Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as the result of mutual agreement between certified organization and certification body. Remote audit activities follow the same principles and format of the on-site audit activities and includes a full audit against the Scheme requirements.

The full remote audit option is only applicable in the following cases:

  • Where the annual, announced FSSC 22000 surveillance or recertification audits are impacted as a result of a serious event and cannot take place on-site;
  • Transition audits;
  • Where follow-up audits to close out nonconformities cannot take place (except critical nonconformities);
  • To conduct a special audit based on the outcome of the serious event risk assessment.
