New Product Development Manager, China

My name is Tracy Chen, native Chinese and speak both Mandarin and Cantonese, working in TIC industry for more than 20 years, currently the New Product Development Manager leading an ESG-service-target team, based in Hangzhou, China.
IN A FEW WORDS, COULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR CAREER PATH?
I started my career as a Business Developer on E-marketing in Bureau Veritas Certification China after I left SGS in 2007. Until today, it’s still my favorite job to develop new business and solutions for our partners and clients, and even better, I’m not working alone, my team and I have the common objectives to contribute on our company’s sustainable business development and delivery since 2018, with the great support from the huge global network of Bureau Veritas and our centralized business line in Paris.
HOW COULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR POSITION AND WORK AT THE CERTIFICATION TEAM ON BV?
I have been a New product manager for five years before I was appointed as New product development manager, so I really appreciate such strategic and creative idea from the management (set up a new role, specializing on more new products development and delivery) to show their confidence on me, and my work at the certification team mainly focused on the study of latest market trends on different ISO standards and EU regulations, identification of high potential new services, and make them our successful products.
HOW IS YOUR WORK ROUTINE?
I live in a beautiful city, which promotes public transportations such as bus, subway and shared-bikes for our daily commute for lower carbon emissions, so I normally wake up at 7:00, walk to the nearest subway station at 8:00, arrive at our local office before 9:00.In the morning, I used to handle the urgent issues and concentrate on the internal and external communication emails, and in the afternoon I would be occupied by more than 2 Teams meeting everyday until night if I won’t travel, as my network really value the exchange of ideas and information within BV group a lot! The dinner time is kept for my family, usually after 19:00, and the weekends are for my friends. I also travel a lot, thanks to BV’s great clients who are the benchmark and industry leaders to be the first one on our new services in new industries; for many pilot audits and witness audits under our new accreditations and new qualifications.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT WORKING IN THE CERTIFICATION AS A NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT MANAGER?
I would say three things I ever enjoyed most:
One is Being grateful for taking this role, encouraged by my boss. She’s not only my best friend, but also the best teacher. I can learn everything from her and I know whenever I need, she is there.
The second is Being creative with this role, supported by my team and our colleagues in the Certification and Group. New product means nobody tried it before, nobody knows how it should be developed, and maybe most of the others know less than us, so that we can build our competitive advantages if we learn and act faster. Recently I was reading the book “Thinking, fast and slow”, while I enjoy the practice of turning an idea into a product, by thinking fast!
The third is Being helpful to all of our clients with our innovative services and technologies. Sustainability is embedded into the heart of our LEAP | 28 strategy and I’m so proud that what I contribute would help to fulfill our goal. I always share this with our clients and glad to receive their positive feedback, that:“ Our vision is to be the preferred partner for our clients’ excellence and sustainability, enabling our customers to navigate technological and societal changes to transform and perform sustainably.”
