Global update

IRIS Certification® REV.4 requires compliance to:

  •  ISO 22163, the railway quality management system standard based upon ISO 9001:2015, including specific requirements for application in the railway sector
  • IRIS Certification® Performance Assessment:2023, which are “the rules” for IRIS Certification®, governed by UNIFE®, the Association of the European Rail Supply Industry

and the use of the IRIS Certification® Technology. The new features of the IRIS Certification® Technology are not yet live but all stakeholders will be informed through “IRIS-portal news“ in due time.

Timing for transition to IRIS Certification® Rev.04

Transition during recertification audit, as from April 2024

As from April 2024 on, UNIFE® requires organizations which are at the recertification stage to have the transition during recertification audit performed, against the new version of the standard. If already certified against REV3, it will not be possible to do audits against REV4 before April 2024.

If the reference date of your organization is shortly before April 2024 and you want to have the transition audit already performed, please contact your local Bureau Veritas contact person to check what is possible.

Transition during surveillance possible as from April 2024, from 1st of Oct all audits against Rev.04

As from April 2024 on, transition during surveillance audit can be performed against the new version of the standard. As from October 2024 on, all audits shall be performed against the new version of the standard. If not yet transitioned by then, the first upcoming audit will be a transition audit.

Training

UNIFE® ‘s training sessions for the upgrade of our auditor ‘s qualifications will take place during the 1st Quarter of 2024.  If you are looking for training, we recommend contacting IRIS for one of their certification training.

Changes in the timing of IRIS audits

The point of reference for calculating the due dates of surveillance and recertification audits remains the “reference date”, the date of the closing meeting of the certification audit.

Moving forward, the latest due date of closing meeting of a surveillance audit and recertification audit will be 30 days prior to the reference date, allowing time for management of CARs in an action plan and validation by the auditor. The earliest due date of closing meeting will be 150 days prior to the reference date.

Additionally, on IRIS’ website – section “Latest news” - “IRIS Certification® Transition to Rev.04” you can also find a document with some more details on the timing and audit-time of the audits.

Preparation for IRIS Rev.04 audits

Your organization shall update and validate the company master data in the IRIS-portal minimum 90 days prior to the start of the audit, including:

  • Certification activities
  • Business activities
  • Organization structure (site & supporting functions)
  • Type of project management
  • Headcount

The number of audit days will now be calculated inside the IRIS portal, based upon the company master data. Note that the SME Simplified approach is not possible for organizations which already have IRIS certification®.
